Why Choose Us?

Lakeland Behavioral Health System has been providing high-quality, personalized treatment for over 30 years. Superseding all standards of care and considering the needs of those receiving our services, the programs we offer are designed to improve patients’ lives by effectively treating any existing mental health concerns.

Here are three of the many reasons why Lakeland is an excellent choice for an adolescent or adult who is in need of acute treatment:

Short- and Long-Term Solutions

Many individuals who come to Lakeland Behavioral Health System for treatment do not spend an extended amount of time at our center. For example, the average length of stay in our acute inpatient programs ranges from a few days to two weeks. But in this relatively short period, individuals can receive life-changing services that can lead to lifelong successes.

Our inpatient program is designed to provide intensive care for individuals who are struggling with acute symptoms and are in need of round-the-clock care. During the time that an individual is with us, a multidisciplinary team of professionals will conduct a thorough assessment, determine an accurate and complete diagnosis, provide the structure and support that is necessary for the individual to achieve stabilization, and develop a thorough plan for appropriate follow-on care.

For individuals whose needs require a more extensive stay in treatment, we offer longer-term care options to meet these needs. The average length of stay in our residential programs ranges from three months to one year. As always, our objective is to determine the type and length of care that an individual needs, and then provide that service. At Lakeland Behavioral Health System, we match the programming to the needs of the patient, not the other way around.

Many of the people who we treat have spent many years struggling with mental and/or behavioral health issues, and many have had prior unsuccessful treatment experiences. With us, they are able to take important first steps toward a healthier tomorrow, and when they leave us they do so with a personalized plan to map their ongoing recovery.

Age-Appropriate Services

It is hardly a revelation to note that children & adolescents are different than adults. Their brains and bodies, their perspectives and experiences, and the ways that they interact with each other are impacted by the world around them in unique ways.

At Lakeland Behavioral Health System, we understand how mental and behavioral health disorders can affect people based on their age and developmental level, and we also appreciate the various age-related factors that can complicate or accelerate treatment and recovery.

In order to ensure that all who heal with us are placed in the best possible position to experience long-term success, we have developed two distinct treatment environments, one for adults ages 60 and above, and one for children and adolescents ages 9 to 20. Within the child & adolescent programs, we offer specialized residential programs that are customized according to the age, gender, and needs of the young people who are entrusted into our care.

These separate programs have been specially designed to meet the mental, behavioral, and emotional needs of our patients through age-appropriate methodologies and therapeutic activities that are delivered in a manner that is ideally suited to the developmental stage of each individual.

Experienced & Compassionate Professionals

Our staff is composed of a broad range of professionals, each of whom brings significant experience and insights to the treatment process. The following are among the individuals with whom you or your loved one will work with while in treatment with us:

  • Psychiatrists
  • Psychologists
  • Pharmacist
  • Psychiatric nurses
  • Psychiatric social worker
  • Clinical dietitian
  • Therapists
  • Educators
  • Social workers

Expertise in our treatment teams is obviously important, but knowledge alone is not enough. In our programs, treatment is not a passive experience. We expect and encourage our patients to take active ownership of their recovery to the greatest degree that they are capable, and to work in close collaboration with the members of their treatment team.

In order for this approach to treatment to be most effective, it is imperative that the treatment professionals who are working with you or your loved one are not only experts in their field, but also act with compassion and respect. At Lakeland Behavioral Health, we are confident that all of the men and women with whom you will interact with while in treatment meet and exceed these expectations.

Compared to the other options, Lakeland Behavioral Health was the only one that was able to provide me with the comprehensive care that my child needed. It was obvious that the staff truly cared, and everyone was great!
