Nate Duncan, LCSW
Chief Executive Officer
Nate Duncan serves as Chief Executive Officer of Lakeland Behavioral Health System, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the behavioral health field. His journey with Lakeland began in 1999 as a Social Services intern, and over the years, he has held several pivotal leadership roles—including Director of Admissions and Social Services, Director of Business Development, and Chief Operating Officer—before being appointed CEO in 2013.
Under Nate’s leadership, Lakeland has undergone significant growth and transformation. He is deeply aligned with the organization’s vision to Lead Care with Light and is recognized for his strategic mindset, collaborative leadership style, and steadfast commitment to operational excellence and compassionate care. Nate is passionate about building strong, empowered teams through mentorship, accessibility, and a deep understanding of every aspect of facility operations.
A lifelong sports enthusiast—especially when it comes to baseball—Nate brings a grounded, team-first mentality to his leadership. He believes success is built on consistency, preparation, and a steady hand. Known for his “Darth Vader approach,” Nate remains calm under pressure, emotionally regulated, and focused on the bigger picture.
Nate holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Missouri State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southwest Baptist University. He is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, certified by the State of Missouri Office of Administration.
Outside of work, Nate is a devoted husband and father of two sons. He brings the same devotion to his family life as he does to his professional role—believing that strong teams, whether at home or at work, are built on trust, presence, and purpose.
