Acute Care
Acute, inpatient treatment is designed to manage crisis situations. Children and adolescents who are generally out of control, are expressing a desire to harm themselves or others, are not responding to less restrictive treatment, or are not functioning in aspects of everyday life are usually treated in this setting.
A multi-disciplinary team consisting of medical physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, registered nurses, behavioral health technicians, recreational specialists, therapists, educators and social workers carefully evaluates and formulates an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
Parental involvement is essential to successful treatment. Each parent is expected to take an active role in treatment through making treatment decisions and being engaged in family therapy.
Treatment modalities include medical management, individual and family therapies, psychological testing, and group therapies such as psychotherapy groups, anger management therapy, and recreational therapy. Specialized groups address substance or alcohol abuse, family issues, self esteem, and sexual and physical abuse.
The academic needs of the residents are met through daily attendance at Lakeland Regional School. Our accredited school is conveniently housed within the facility. We are able to cater to the needs of special education populations.
Each Acute Care program has treatment that includes the following services:

- Anger management
- Recreational therapy/creative expression
- Community/process groups
- Individualized treatment planning
- Relationships
- Safety and relapse prevention
- Life skills
Other therapies available based on individual needs are:
- Individual crisis management plan
- Individual education plan
- Alcohol/substance abuse group
With 60 inpatient beds, Lakeland operates individual units divided by age or type of problem behavior.
- Acute Care for children ages 4-11
- Acute Care Boys Behavioral Therapy and/or Sexually Maladaptive Behavior ages 12-17
- Acute Care Coed Adolescent unit, ages 11-17
