Welcome from our CEO, Keith A. Furman

Thank you for your interest in Lakeland Behavioral Health System!

For more than 100 years this facility has been dedicated to providing cutting edge medical and psychiatric needs.  Since 1989, Lakeland has developed and refined programs that focus on our most important population, the psychiatric health and well being of children and adolescents.  While many psychiatric programs have closed due to declining reimbursement and state budget cuts, Lakeland has thrived due to the excellent programs, positive treatment outcomes and the individualized care provided to adolescents and their families.

Here are a few very important facts about Lakeland which set us apart from other acute care and residential treatment programs for children and adolescents:

  • We are the largest acute care provider in the state of Missouri and bordering states (ages 4-17).
  • We offer 3 different acute programs allowing us to provide individualized treatment based on age, developmental functioning and symptomatic issues.
  • In a matter of a week, we provide more treatment on the acute side of the hospital than can be replicated in a few months of outpatient therapy.
  • We offer 4 different residential programs with a focus of medium to long-term treatment for pre-adolescents, adolescents and young adults.
  • We offer a year round, fully accredited school with a principal, teachers and special education programs.  Our goal is to help each individual get caught up to their grade level.  Test scores show that most of our students in residential treatment at Lakeland jump 2.5 grade levels.

We have an ever expanding focus and are dedicated to serving military families in their time of need.  Lakeland is a TRICARE approved provider and contracted with TriWest, TriSouth and TriNorth as we are centrally located geographically.  We have provided services to families that are stationed overseas and outlying states with little access to services.  Lakeland will provide financial help for military families in regards to transportation and visitation needs.

Each day it is our goal to provide the best psychiatric care and treatment for the next generation.  Our caring staff of professionals is dedicated to helping children and adolescents change their lives, and be better equipped to function in their home environment.

I invite you to learn more about the services we offer within this website.  Please feel free to reach out to our admissions department for questions and/or assistance in navigating the admission process.

Best regards,

Keith A. Furman, Chief Executive Officer
